To launch Energy month on Friday 1st November, Barbados Light & Power Ltd, hosted Energy Talks 2018 at the Walcott Barrow Theatre, UWI, Cave Hill. The Feature address was given by Professor Anthony Clayton, Alcan Professor of Caribbean Sustainable Development in the Institute for Sustainable Development, University of West Indies, Mona Campus in Jamaica, who spoke on the theme of Seizing the future and choosing our destiny.

Remarks on the theme was given by The Hon Wilfred Abrahams, Minister for Energy and Water Resources, who commended Light and Power for their 100-100 Vision of 100% renewable energy and 100% electrification and outlined the government’s own goal of reaching that target by 2030 if all sectors work together.

Our friends at Megapower, have already started the wave, so we want to shine the spotlight on them (powered by solar energy of course!)  for Global Entrepreneurial Week

Megapower focuses on promoting the uptake of electric vehicles powered by renewable sources. We are headquartered in Barbados, with a permanent office in Antigua and we are currently engaging private sector, governments and electric utilities throughout the Caribbean, from Turks and Caicos in the north to Trinidad in the south.

Here are five good reasons to drive an EV:

1. Slash your fuel bill. Customers like FLOW previously paid $800-$1000 on gasoline per vehicle per month and now with their EV fleet are spending less than $290 on each vehicle.

2. Reduce you maintenance bill. With fewer moving parts and no oil to change!

3. Instant torque and acceleration, no jerky riding in an EV.

4. Ability to charge your car from renewable energy - driving an EV makes this possible.

5. Emissions matter - achieve zero emission driving and help Barbados reach its renewable energy targets.
