12 Things you can start now to Live a Harmonious Life

12 Practical Tips to a Balanced & Harmonious Life

Guest Blogger: yiga! Ambassador Celia Collymore,

In today’s busy world, prioritizing your life can be a huge challenge and studies show that a poor work-life balance can result in unhealthy levels of stress, lack of physical activity, poor health, bad eating habits, unhappiness, and even reduced productivity.

As a company, we are always working on the journey of finding our own balance (steadiness) and we recognize that balance can be relative and subjective. We are all different, live different lifestyles and are at different phases in our lives (single, married, student, have children, no children, business owner, employee etc.), therefore it is important to give your best, do what is best for you and feels right to you. Live your own life on purpose and not what is prescribed.

Ask yourself two simple and honest questions.

  1. Am I happy?
  2. Are the people I care about happy?

Your response will help you decide if you need to work on these areas/make them better and/or remain the same/keep doing what you are doing. In the end we all want to be happy and to find happiness/see our lives start to shift, we must take action and start doing the things/create habits or daily routines to help us maintain that feeling of happiness.

Finding Your Balance & Living in Harmony

Step 1: Set your priorities

What are your priorities? When you have identified them, focus on them and work towards enjoying and achieving your goals. Ask yourself, “If I could only focus on one thing in my life, what would it be?”

Step 2: Create a schedule

Document how, when, why, where, what, with whom you spend your time. Analyze your priorities, those that are aligned with your vision, pay attention to the trivial stuff and work towards minimizing or eliminating those useless activities.

Step 3: Be great at one thing
Focus on being great at one thing and when you’ve completed the task move on to the next thing.

Devote your time, attention and energy to appreciate what’s important and makes you feel good about doing it. Do not dwell on your weaknesses.

Step 4: Plan to do a daily enjoyable moment
Base on schedule, set aside 30 minutes to an hour to relax, go for a walk, read a book, meet-up with a friend or just do nothing. It can be quick, easy, cheap and stress-free.
Step 5: Value your “ME” time
Once you’ve scheduled some personal time for yourself, respect and acknowledge your time, unless there’s an emergency which is out of your control. Work life “integration” (employer, technology, cell phones, laptops etc.) seems to be bombarding almost everybody. Please do yourself a favor, set boundaries and politely ask your professional and social circles to respect your space.

Step 6: Assess your overall lifestyle

Are you discipline? Do you have the right mindset to accomplish your goals or are there some bad habits (food, exercise, sleep etc.) that are impacting you mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually and/or financially and taking your balance off course? Answer the questions, take action, create better habits and make intentional changes.

Step 7: Getaway

Take a breather, go on a vacation or experience a staycation, one week to a month a year! In order to enjoy the spoils of life, become more productive, happy and giving to others, it is important to relax and rejuvenate.

Step 8: Ask for help
Share your goals, hopes and dreams with persons who you trust/are closest to you (family, friends, teammates, colleagues) and ask for their support, guidance and respect.

Step 9: Seek out a Mentor/Confidant/Coach
These individuals can assess your life, and can guide you towards achieving the best balance. Seek out a person with a successful career and a terrific personal life. Ask him or her to give you advice on career development, setting priorities, and time management.

Step 10: Get fit and stay active
It may feel overwhelming to add another activity to your life, but exercise relieves stress, clears your mind, and ultimately makes you more productive. Take charge of your life and find the time to focus on renewing and rejuvenating your body, mind and spirit.

Step 11: Confidently say “NO”
Learn to say no without guilt. Don’t agree to every request or opportunity. You have a schedule and if it doesn’t fit your goals, gladly turn down the offer. Don’t try to be all things to everybody.

Step 12: Regularly evaluate and re-evaluate your life

Accomplishing life balance is an endless and transformational journey, and your needs will be different sometimes in your life. Set aside some time occasionally to reflect on your current situation, what you would like it to be, and what the plan is for arriving at optimal balance.

You’re On Your Way!

Overall achievement and enjoyment in your daily life is ideal/a beautiful feeling to maintaining balance. Have fun, work hard, work smart, stay positive, be consistent, live intentionally, and strive to do what works best for you.
